Same-day dental implants — sometimes called immediate load implants — allow qualified patients to leave our Poway office with a functional tooth replacement the same day as implant placement. For many patients, this eliminates the months-long wait between implant surgery and final restoration.
How Same-Day Implants Work
Traditional implants require a healing period (osseointegration) of 3–6 months after the implant post is placed before the final crown can be attached. With same-day implants, a temporary crown is placed on the implant post immediately after surgery. The temporary crown looks and functions like a real tooth while osseointegration takes place. The final permanent crown is placed once healing is complete.
Are You a Candidate?
Same-day implants work best for patients who: have adequate bone density at the implant site, are in good general health, don't smoke (or are willing to quit), and need to replace a single tooth or a small number of teeth. Patients with significant bone loss, uncontrolled diabetes, or other systemic conditions may need a traditional implant timeline.
